The family headed out today into the deeps of the Flathead National Forest to find the perfect Christmas tree. With a thermos of hot cocoa, a homemade Christmas carol CD and our $5 Christmas tree permit (best deal ever...) we loaded into the jeep and found a mostly passable forest service trail to explore.

After not too much scouting, debating and voting we were all able to agree on this year's winner. Granted, the trees found in the forest are not nearly as full as the ones from the tree farms -but we get to make an afternoon of it and we end up with not just an authentic Montana Balsam but also have the special memories of this annual tradition.

As a bonus, today was also the annual Whitefish Christmas Stroll. So after our afternoon in the forest we stopped in downtown Whitefish and strolled the local shops (including our own store...) and enjoyed hot cider and a warm fire.
